Titchfield Haven

Leaders: (a Reserve Range, Mark, and a volunteer)

The weather was perfect for a visit to this very special nature reserve. Ably guided by a reserve Ranger and a volunteer, both exceptionally knowledgeable, 46 species of birds were recorded. Too many highlights to list them all, but here are a few:

Eider duck at sea
Glossy Ibis
Marsh Harrier
Snipe – in the water close to the hide
Great White Egret
Goldcrest

It was very special to see 4 or 5 Great White Egrets, several Little Egrets and Heron together in one area. It really gave perspective to the relative sizes.

There were a good number of Wigeon and a few Teal, some Sandwich Terns and Shovellers.

Turnstones were seen outside the reserve perching on a number of boats in the harbour as the tide was very high. These are a regular feature on visits to Titchfield Haven and always a delight.
The group benefitted greatly from having the two reserve guides.
